Amanah wants showdown with PAS in by-elections
(The Star) – Parti Amanah Negara has offered to contest in the by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar to enable a showdown between Amanah and PAS.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference at the Parliament lobby on Monday, Shah Alam MP and Amanah spokesman Khalid Abdul Samad said it is best that Pakatan Harapan respects PAS’ decision to contest both by-elections.
“They have already made their stand and there is no point trying to negotiate with them.
“It is obvious that efforts at negotiations have failed because PAS insists in contesting both seats,” he said.
Khalid said the best way to ensure a one-on-one fight against Barisan Nasional in the by-elections is to allow Amanah to contest both seats.
“PAS will see this as a golden opportunity to prove that Amanah is an insignificant mosquito party.
“This will also be their chance to prove that they are strong enough to contest on their own,” he said.
He added that Amanah had spoken to PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who asked that the party to wait for the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting.
