We are sick and tired of being charitable, says Hadi

(The Star) – PAS is sick and tired of being “charitable” by giving away its seats to other parties to contest, said Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (pic).

PAS, said the party president, had also had enough of its members going around and helping with the “dirty work” for candidates from other parties.

“We are tired of doing such kind of charity. We do all the hard work and the candidates can only be seen during the campaigning and polling days.

“After the election, you don’t see them anywhere around. It is only the PAS members who are working hard,” Abdul Hadi told reporters after his weekly Friday speech at the Rusila mosque here.

He was responding to a question if PAS would change its mind at the last minute and bow to pressure from other parties to make way for Amanah and PKR to contest in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections.

PAS, he said, had been “charitable” in the past and that it was now time for the party to contest these seats and do its own work.

“This is not just about the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections but also everywhere else.

“Enough of such charity by giving others our seats. We are confident of our capabilities,” he said, adding compared to PAS, these parties were new.

Both Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar, he said, traditionally belonged to PAS, adding it had worked hard to reduce the majority won by Barisan Nasional candidates in these two seats.

On another matter, Abdul Hadi slammed DAP for being anti-Islam and lacking in manners by poking its nose into matters involving Muslims.

He said DAP should emulate parties like MCA, Gerakan and MIC, which, despite having different views on matters brought up by PAS, always articulated their opinions in a proper manner.

“DAP is a party without manners and anti-Islam. All they know is making enemy with Muslims.

“MCA, MIC and Gerakan, too, have different views on certain matters, but they have manners. They are different from DAP which only knows how to poke its nose in matters that do not concern it,” Abdul Hadi said.
