Mahathir’s gang trying to give Kuala Kangsar to the opposition

Of course they would like Najib to abort the plan to field Mastura and to replace her with another less-winnable candidate. With PAS fielding strong candidates in both Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar — and unless Amanah also contests both seats to turn it into three-corner fights — Umno can lose if their candidates are weak. And ANC’s worry is that Mastura is a strong candidate so they are throwing the Qur’an at her to stop her from campaigning.

Mastura Mohd Yazid, the widow of Wan Mohammad Khairil Anuar Wan Ahmad, the late Kuala Kangsar Member of Parliament, will be contesting the Kuala Kangsar by-election next month. And this has upset the ANC (Anti-Najib Campaign) because they want that seat to fall to the opposition, and with the widow of the late MP contesting that seat, this would be very difficult.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wants Umno-Barisan Nasional to lose both the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections so that this can be used as ‘proof’ that Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is not popular and then they can demand his resignation. They were hoping this could be done after the Sarawak state elections but then the opposition won just ten seats instead of the 28 they had hoped for.

The objection to Mastura contesting Kuala Kangsar started with the message below that was circulated to all and sundry. Now an Anti-Mastura campaign has emerged with calls for Najib to drop her as the candidate and replace her with someone else. If Najib does that then it would look like he can easily be frightened and pressured and that he does not think before he makes any decision. That, too, can be used against Najib.

The issue they are raising is that a widow should not be allowed to leave the house until after four months and ten days (about 130 days) after her husband’s death. So this means Mastura will not be able to campaign or meet the voters. In that case Parliament will have to pass a law that makes it mandatory for private companies as well as government departments, agencies, ministries, etc., to give their Muslim staff 130 days paid leave when her husband dies.

Another story is that Mustura’s late husband was pro-Muhyiddin Yassin. And they say that the Perak Menteri Besar is also pro-Muhyiddin. So, with Najib agreeing to the Menteri Besar’s proposal that Mastura contest the Kuala Kangsar by-election, this will weaken the pro-Muhyiddin faction in Perak. Well, this is what some Umno leaders tell me anyway.

If Umno wants to protest Mastura contesting the Kuala Kangsar by-election then they should go all the way. In the first place women should not be contesting the by-election even if her husband is not dead. Islam does not allow women imams and this does not just mean women leading men in prayer. It also means women leading men in government.

In Saudi Arabia women are not allowed to work (or leave the house unescorted, drive a car, etc.). Maybe Umno would want to do the ‘proper’ Islamic thing. Instead of just banning women from leaving the house within 130 days of their husband’s death, women should be totally banned from public office.

CALON BN DI KUALA KANGSAR TIDAK BOLEH BERKEMPEN?

Calon BN Puan Mastura dilihat sebagai calon kontroversi kerana masih dalam tempoh ‘iddah.

Sudah pasti secara prinsipnya kita perlu kembali kepada nas2 agama yg merentasi fahaman mahupun ideologi politik.

Hukum bg wanita yg sedang iddah telah disepakati oleh ulama tentang larangan “keluar” dari rumah selama 4 bulan 10 hari.

Antara dalil dari Al-Quran dan Al-Sunnah yg digunakan sebagai hujjah oleh para ulama dalam menetapkan hukum hakam asas bagi iddah:

1. Al-Quran

Firman Allah SWT:

( وَالَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزْوَاجًا يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنْفُسِهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا فَإِذَا بَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِيمَا فَعَلْنَ فِي أَنْفُسِهِنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ ( 234 ) )

Maksudnya: “Maksudnya: Dan orang-orang yang meninggal dunia di antara kamu, sedang mereka meninggalkan isteri-isteri hendaklah isteri-isteri itu menahan diri mereka (beridah) selama empat bulan sepuluh hari.” (QS Al-Baqarah, 2:234)

2. Hadis Nabi SAW

عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَا تُحِدُّ امْرَأَةٌ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ إِلَّا عَلَى زَوْجٍ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا وَلَا تَلْبَسُ ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا إِلَّا ثَوْبَ عَصْبٍ وَلَا تَكْتَحِلُ وَلَا تَمَسُّ طِيبًا إِلَّا إِذَا طَهُرَتْ نُبْذَةً مِنْ قُسْطٍ أَوْ أَظْفَارٍ

Dari Ummu ‘Athiyyah RA, sesungguhnya Rasulullah SAW bersabda: “Tidak dibenarkan bagi seorang wanita untuk berkabung atas kematian seseorang lebih daripada 3 hari kecuali atas kematian suaminya iaitu selama 4 bulan 10 hari. (Selama tempoh itu) Dia tidak boleh memakai pakaian yang beraneka warna kecuali jika pakaian itu kain putih dan coraknya sekadar garis-garis (belang) (sejenis kain buatan Yaman pada zaman Nabi), dia juga tidak boleh memakai celak dan tidak pula boleh berwangi-wangian melainkan ketika ia bersih (daripada haid). (Adapun ketika haid) maka (diperbolehkan) dia mengenakan sedikit wangian dengan cebisan kapas/kain (untuk menghilangkan bau tidak enak pada kemaluannya).” (HR al-Bukhari & Muslim)

Jadi persoalannya bagaimana dgn Puan Mastura?

Saya ingin memberi cadangan kepada pemimpin tertinggi Barisan Nasional supaya tetap menghormati keputusan AGAMA iaitu Puan Mastura TIDAK BOLEH KELUAR dari rumah utk berkempen. Sebaliknya biarlah anak beliau menjadi pengganti beliau utk berkempen sepanjang tempoh pilihanraya. Kehendak agama WAJIB didahulukan dari kehendak manusia. Saya amat yakin umat Islam mampu memahami situasi ini dengan baik. Dan saya berharap kepada pengundi2 non-muslim juga memahami sensitiviti hukum yg telah diputuskan dalam agama kami.
