Bersih campaigns for Mahathir’s ANC
Bersih’s priority is to oust Prime Minister Najib and replace with with Mahathir’s proxy
(FMT) – Bersih 2.0 said that it has two simple questions to ask the candidates from Barisan Nasional (BN), Amanah, PAS and an independent in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar. “This will assist voters to decide which candidate best represents their interests and well-being,” said the NGO in a statement.
The two questions are as follows:-
Question 1
If you become a Member of Parliament, will you support both the removal of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the 10 institutional reforms demanded by Bersih 2.0?
Question 2
If you become a Member of Parliament, will you support reforms to ensure clean and fair elections, including transparent financial accounting by candidates?
To assist the voters, Bersih 2.0 would like the candidates to give their answers within three days through a media statement. “We believe that voters need clarity on these issues so that they can make informed decisions,” said the Bersih 2.0 statement. “If there’s no response, we will assume that the answers to both questions are in the negative.”
Bersih 2.0 was expressing its deep concern that never in the history of the nation has it faced such a scandal ridden Prime Minister like Najib Abdul Razak. “It appears now that all his decisions are based more on his survival rather than the interests of the nation.”
“Najib has virtually ruled out, by a series of his political moves, all possibilities for truth on the 1MDB Scandal to be unearthed and criminals to be brought to justice.”
Hence, argued Bersih 2.0, the two by-elections must send a clear message that the extensive abuse of power, the destruction of institutions and the theft of the rakyat’s money must stop. “All Malaysians are now paying a huge price for the RM42 billion scandal of 1MDB amongst other incidences of corruption, leakages and mismanagement,” said the statement.
