Hadi admits meeting Dr M over Najib’s ouster

(Bernama) – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang admitted that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad met him three months ago to discuss a plan to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Abdul Hadi, however, said he rejected the offer as he regarded it would not be beneficial to him or the party.

“PAS does not oppose any individual..does not oppose a person but (oppose) the concept and policy. If a person is changed but the policy and approach are the same, nothing changes,” he told reporters during a walkabout at the Sekinchan Town Ramadan bazaar, here, today.

On Tun Mahathir’s claim that he (Abdul Hadi) ate Najib’s bran (dedak), the PAS president cynically asked who first started teaching the giving of bran prior to this?

“Because PAS does not eat bran, it can continue the struggle without money politics, BR1M politics, who taught (them)?

“As long as the approach is not changed, behaviour is not changed, the matter will continue to happen,” he said.

Commenting on the suggestion of former Chief Justice of Malaya Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad that Umno and PAS joined forces to strengthen the position of the Malays and Islam, Abdul Hadi said: “We have a guideline in the Quran..go back to the Quran, hadith fully then we can be united.

“We are not hasty, like the Private Member’s Bill, it is a very good and positive cooperation move,” he said in reference to the path given by the government for him to submit the Private Member’s Bill to amend the Syariah Court Act recently.

Other than the walkabout, PAS also offered several services to the public including a free health check and replacement of motorcycle engine oil.

The Sungai Besar Parliamentary by-election would see a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional (BN), PAS and Parti Amanah Negara following the death of incumbent Tan Sri Noriah Kasnon in a helicopter mishap in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.
