Lim accepts Liang’s challenge to debate on tunnel
Lim Hock Seng hopes RTM or TV3 will show debate with Gerakan’s Liang Teck Ming on July 27 or 28.
(FMT) – The debate on the RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel and three paired roads project is on.
This came after Penang Executive Councillor Lim Hock Seng accepted a challenge from a top Gerakan leader.
Lim said he would take on Gerakan’s Secretary-General Liang Teck Ming in a debate tentatively to be held at a hall in Residency Road.
“We read in the newspapers that Liang wants to debate with me on the tunnel project. I accept his challenge.
“I had said I do not know him before, but now I know he is secretary-general for Gerakan and also a MP for Simpang Renggam … now I know him,” he said at a press conference in Komtar today.
Lim also urged Liang to request national broadcasters, such as Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and TV3, to broadcast it live.
He also said Liang had the option to debate with him either on July 27 or 28 and that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s Political Secretary Wong Hon Wai would organise the event.
“We will pick a respectable and independent moderator.
“It can be in any language, English, Mandarin, Hokkien, what have you.”
Liang had challenged Lim to a debate on the tunnel and road project on June 11 after the latter snubbed Penang Gerakan Acting Youth Chief Jason Loo’s call for a debate.
“If the Penang Government is still of the opinion that our Penang Gerakan acting youth chief is a nobody, not up to your level to debate and need to be elected as a YB first before he qualifies to debate with you, perhaps I can offer to take his place instead?” Liang had said in a statement.
Lim had said he only wanted to debate an elected representative or someone of a similar stature as him.
