Lim Kit Siang blames Najib for son’s arrest, outside MACC office
The Third Force
Penang Chief Minister (CM) Lim Guan Eng was picked up yesterday by officers from the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission, or the MACC, based on a discovery exercise that had been conducted by the anti-graft agency over allegations of corruption and possible criminal malfeasance by the CM.
The arrest, which took place at around 5.30 pm, saw the embattled CM being escorted to the MACC state office at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah from his office in Komtar. Following the arrest, members of the media who were present were told of a twitter feed by DAP youth Chief Wong Kah Wong that urged supporters to assemble outside the state MACC office at 8.30 pm.
The feed, made viral presumably by Kah Wong himself and the party, resulted in a crowd of 50 or so persons trickling in as early as 8 pm at the stipulated venue. Within the hour, the crowd had grown to an estimated 150 persons and peaked to around 300 – 350 persons, comprising mainly of curious onlookers and about four to five dozen staunch Guan Eng supporters.
Most notable among those present was the wife of the late Karpal Singh, who was seen consoling a member of the Lim family before heading towards the MACC gates. Lim Kit Siang arrived almost three hours later and immediately took to a makeshift ‘rostrum’ to deliver a venomous speech against the leadership of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The senior Lim, who was said to have come together with Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) President Mat Sabu (Mohamad Sabu), implied to all those present that Guan Eng’s arrest was at the behest of the Prime Minister whose feet had grown too big for his shoes.
Among others, Kit Siang alleged that Najib was flexing his muscles following Barisan Nasional’s landslide wins at Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, such that the Prime Minister felt the people had forgotten about the RM55 billion (up RM13 billion from previous allegations) scandal and the RM 4.2 billion (up RM 2.6 billion from previous allegations) donation controversy that Najib was allegedly responsible for.

An update by the MACC that was making its rounds on WhatsApp erroneously reported that the crowd had grown from around 300 persons to around 1,000 people. It is yet unclear at the time of writing if this was a genuine mistake on the part of the MACC or if there was a hidden agenda by the anti-graft agency.
