Education minister accuses Nga of hate politics
(Bernama) – Taiping Member of Parliament, Nga Kor Ming has used the politics of hatred to ridicule the Aidilfitri celebration in the social networking site, Facebook as a way to destroy racial unity.
UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid also described the action of the DAP leader as discourteous and allegedly insulted the culture and religion being practised in the country which is multi-racial.
Mahdzir, who is also Education Minister, said the unity programme implemented in schools in the country would also not be successful if the DAP leadership continued to make politics as a platform to destroy unity.
“The unity founded 60 years ago must be preserved well and the next generation must ensure it is not contaminated by the opposition political agenda,” he said at the Padang Terap Member of Parliament Aidilfitri open house in Padang Kerasak, Naka, today.
Last Tuesday, Nga uploaded a picture with the background of a lighthouse and the United States flag in his Aidilfitri message posted on his Facebook account.
He said at the school level the ministry had implemented the Student Integration For Unity Planning programme to expose school students on ways to strengthen unity.
Meanwhile in Taiping, Taiping UMNO Division vice chief Datuk Mohamed Zahir Abdul Khalid said Nga’s action had lowered his reputation as a politician besides reflecting his personal character.
“As a MP in a multi-racial country, Nga should respect all celebrations,” he told Bernama here today.
Meanwhile a voter in the Aulong state constituency, one of the three state seats in Taiping Parliamentary constituency, Lim Heng Siang said Nga’s action clearly insulted other religion.
In Kota Baharu, Kelantan Pas Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari wanted Nga to apologise to Muslims for allegedly insulting the Aidilfitri celebration as he should not have joked about sensitive issues, especially involving religion.
