Liow: Nga’s “dedak duit Raya” remark malicious and racially provocative

(The Star) – Nga Kor Ming’s “dedak duit Raya” remark on Facebook is malicious and intended to instigate racial hatred among the people, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pic).

He said the DAP leader should know that giving duit Raya has been a culture among Malaysian Muslims, just like the Chinese give ang pow during Chinese New Year.

“As MPs, we have to be careful with our words and views to uphold racial harmony and unity in the country and not to incite hatred among the people.

“We should not insult the practices of other races,” he told reporters after witnessing the swearing-in of the 48th committee of the Bentong Hakka Association here Sunday.

Liow was commenting on Nga’s two Facebook postings recently, over which many Muslims felt insulted and said that he had belittled Islam.

Nga eventually removed the posts – one that showed the US flag and the message “In God We Trust” which he took from the official page of Christian evangelist James Dobson, and the other a cartoon linking duit Raya with dedak (chicken feed).

Several police reports have since been lodged against Nga.

Liow reminded the people that Hari Raya is a festival celebrated by all, not a platform to spread political agendas.
