When It Comes To 1MDB, The Opposition Is Like A Dog With A Bone; They Just Can’t Let Go!
The Malaysian Observer
For those who have ever owned a dog or have observed them for any length of time, you would have noticed how when a dog has its teeth clinched around a bone, it does not want to let go. No matter how much you pull and tug, the dog holds on as if its life depended on it! Perhaps it is a game to the dog or some primal instinct of survival that kicks in that causes the dog to hold on even when logic dictates otherwise.
That behaviour is similar to that which the DAP’s Lim Kit Siang and Tun Mahathir exhibit when it comes to 1MDB.
1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) is like the bone that they cannot let go of. Sometimes it is hard to tell, if they are treating it (1MDB) as their personal game or if they see it as the substance for their very survival!
Given the major losses sustained in Sarawak election and the two (Sungai Besar, Kuala Kangsar) by-elections, it seems that now they (Pakatan Harapan, Tun Mahathir) are placing all of their hopes on 1MDB; it has become their very survival issue.
It seems that at some point following the recent elections they (Pakatan Harapan and Tun Mahathir) must have realized that it is too late to create and develop a new issue in which to accuse Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak before GE14; so they are left with no other choice other than to hold on to 1MDB no matter the outcome.
Look at how 1MDB was a major part of the strategy Pakatan Harapan and Tun Mahathir used leading up to the Sarawak election. The Opposition continuously mentioned 1MDB with the occasional mention of GST sprinkled to try and stir the emotions.
Realizing the results in Sarawak were against them, Pakatan Harapan tried before the twin by-elections to speak more on GST along with 1MDB and included the tabled Hudud Bill as a means to scare Chinese voters. Again the fear based strategy Pakatan Harapan and Tun Mahathir employed failed to bring about a reversal of election fortunes.
But for all the ‘Chicken Little’ screams of ‘The Sky is Falling’ that Pakatan Harapan made before the elections, they along with Tun Mahathir went into silent mode following the voters defeating them at the polls. Apparently the sky took a hiatus from falling until they (Pakatan Harapan, Tun Mahathir) could figure out what to do next.
What was probably figured out on their part was that it was much too late to change directions. With GE 14 in two (2) years, Pakatan Harapan and Tun Mahathir could not afford to take another two years to develop a new issue against Prime Minister Najib Razak. Their only choice is to continue to bring up 1MDB as a means for the court of public opinion to find fault with the Prime Minister.
The fact that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) investigation cleared Prime Minister Najib Razak of any 1MDB impropriety is not enough to satiate Lim Kit Siang (Pakatan Harapan, Tun Mahathir); only a verdict of guilt would bring contentment and findings of the PAC report did not provide that.
