Darell Leiking insulted Islam and the head of the religion in Selangor
(MMO) – Tan Sri Noh Omar challenged PKR’s national leadership today to discipline its Sabah lawmaker Darell Leiking for allegedly insulting Islam and the head of the religion in Selangor.
The Selangor Umno chief asserted that PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her deputy Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who are both state lawmakers have a responsibility to defend the honour of Islam in the state.
“I want to challenge PKR, I want to challenge the mentri besar and the party’s president, who are assemblymen in Selangor [to take action against Leiking],” Noh told reporters during his Hari Raya open house at Shah Alam Convention Centre here.
“Jais and Mais are under the sultan. The sultan is the religious leader of Selangor. So if he is questioning the religion, questioning the khutbah, to me, it is the same as questioning the sultan,” he added.
Jais is the Malay acronym for the Selangor Islamic Religious Department and Mais, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council, both of which act as the enforcement arm and the advisors on the religion to the state Ruler, who is the head of Islam.
Noh took issue with Leiking’s July 7 Facebook post in which the Penampang MP allegedly made a reference to Jais’ sermon on the first day of the Hari Raya celebration, which lauded the tabling of the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act Amendment Bill 2016 in Parliament.
Leiking wrote: “It is beginning to look like the extremists are running the State of Selangor”.
Jais director Datuk Haris Kasim and five non-governmental organisations filed police complaints against the non-Muslim Sabah PKR vice-president last Friday.
