Nazri thanks DAP for validating Umno’s move
Federal minister advises DAP to think carefully the next time it criticises others since they too have postponed party elections just like Umno did last year.
(FMT) – DAP’s decision to postpone its party elections has earned the praise of Umno Minister Nazri Aziz, who says it validates the same move the ruling Malay party took last year.
“To me, it (DAP delaying its party polls) is okay as the party constitution allows it to do so.
“It is also a full validation of what we (Umno) have done.
“So, thank you DAP for endorsing Umno. It shows that Umno will never do anything wrong.
“The ones who have, are PKR and PAS,” said Nazri at a press conference here today.
Nazri however also chastised DAP for being “hypocrites”, and advised them to think carefully the next time it planned to criticise the actions of others.
“Pot calling kettle black? Well, let them be. It’s not important what they want to do.
“But to criticise others and then do the same … that’s the definition of a hypocrite, right?”
The DAP Central Executive Council (CEC) on Monday announced that it would postpone its party elections this year to focus on the 2018 General Election.
The CEC was due for re-elections on Sept 29, but the party’s constitution allows internal elections to be postponed for up to 18 months if a general election was due within two years.
Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang had also criticised DAP for its decision, especially since the latter had come down hard on Umno and its president, Prime Minister Najib Razak, for making a similar call last year.
He went even further by saying DAP stood for “Double-standard Action Party.”
