Stop making a fuss about Selena Gomez concert, MB tells PAS
(The Star) – “It is normal. Do not get excited about it”
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (pic) has taken a swipe at PAS for making a fuss about the Selena Gomez concert, saying they should not “get excited about” her appearance.
Azmin said a person’s appearance was God’s gift and should not be viewed differently.
“(A person’s) sexiness is God’s creation. What do we do? It is God’s creation that some are sexy and pretty and some are not.
“It is normal. Do not get excited about it,” he said after attending Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here yesterday.
Azmin was responding to questions on PAS Youth’s disapproval of Gomez’s The Revival Tour concert scheduled to be held at Stadium Melawati in Shah Alam on July 25.
The wing’s dakwah committee chairman Hafez Sabri claimed that the American singer’s sexy appearance would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal.
“Well, we have to respect all months,” said Azmin, adding that he was more excited about the singer’s music, songs and lyrics rather than her appearance.
Azmin said MBSA had not received any permit application from the concert organiser.
But the organisers, PR Worldwide managing director Para R. said they had submitted all the necessary forms to the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and had already obtained approval to use the stadium.
“We did all the due process and have obtained the permit from MBSA and Puspal (Central Agency for Application of Filming and Performance by Foreign Artists) to hold the concert. Just to make it clear that all the permits are in place, so that people can make travel plans for the concert,” he said.
He said that PAS Youth’s objection to Gomez’s concert was unfounded as artists are usually advised to adhere to the religious and cultural sensitivities of the country they are performing in.
