Hadi: PAS will stand in every Penang seat

Abdul Hadi Awang

(Bernama) – The Islamic party, PAS, has announced plans to contest every state assembly seat if fresh elections are called for Penang.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the party would contest the state elections on its own.

“We have the strength in the state based on the history of the party itself that was established in Penang. DAP and PKR should also realise that they depended on our grassroots support to win at the last general election,” he said yesterday.

In the meantime, Abdul Hadi said PAS did not rule out the possibility of working with a new party to be formed by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as long as it did not contradict with PAS’s struggle to uphold Islam.

He said PAS had previously taken the step to work with all parties, on condition that they did not interfere with the party’s Islamic principles.

“We do not interfere with DAP policy, but instead they (DAP) have interfered in PAS policy. We are firm in this matter and decided to quit Pakatan Rakyat.

“PAS remains consistent with the policy that we have been championing since our early days. The third block created by PAS has worked with more than 50 non-governmental organisations and one political party,” Abdul Hadi said.
