PKR not convinced snap polls are necessary in Penang
(The Star) – PKR is still unconvinced over the purpose of having snap polls in Penang.
PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said they came up with the decision after a thorough meeting that also took into account the opinions of civil society.
She said that they would send a delegation to the DAP leadership to explain their stand.
“Nevertheless because of our camaraderie we are still willing to have discussion with our allies in Pakatan Harapan on this issue,” she told reporters after the party had a meeting at its headquarters here on Tuesday night.
On Monday night, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced that Amanah was supporting DAP’s proposal to hold snap polls in Penang.
DAP has 19 seats in the state assembly, PKR 10, PAS one and Barisan 10.
PAS, which is no longer part of the Pakatan coalition, is expected to field more candidates, creating multi-cornered fights against Barisan.
Barisan leaders said although they are against the proposal for snap elections, they are prepared to put up a fight in their bid to wrest back the state from the Opposition coalition.
