(MMO) – Hostility between allies PKR and DAP over snap polls in Penang are continuing, this time with the state’s first deputy chief minister responding to a Selangor assemblyman on the matter.

PKR’s Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon further said that the continued attacks by DAP — the latest by Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik — only served to reinforce his party’s resolve not to be pushed into the election.

Ng was quoted by a Chinese newspaper saying that DAP would be able to retain all their seats in Penang, but PKR would lose some due to the allegedly poor performance of its elected representatives.

“He (Ng) is free to make whatever claims he wants, but they have to be supported with facts,” the Penang DCM I was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.

“Moreover, because of such (negative) statements, it strengthens our bid to discuss the snap polls proposal further and not accept whatever is proposed by DAP.”

Ng did not mention any names in the article published by Kwong Wah Yit Poh.

Rashid also cautioned DAP not to press ahead with the early election in the event it cannot convince PKR to agree. The third Pakatan Harapan partner, Amanah, has approved, but does not hold any seats in the state.

DAP has claimed it will not act unilaterally on the matter, but is pressing PKR to agree to its request quickly in order for the snap poll to be held this year.
