‘Un-Islamic’ to cross the line, Najib tells Dr M
(The Star) – Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has told former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad not to cross the line as it is un-Islamic.
Najib, who is also Prime Minister, added that Dr Mahathir actions were akin to attempting to bring Umno’s house down.
“Even God instructed the prophet Moses to advise the Pharoah properly, not to transgress and did not instruct Moses to bring down the Pharoah government.
“I am fine with disagreement or differing opinions within the leadership, but to attack me as the party president and try to destroy Umno by setting up an alternative political party is too much, ” Najib said in his speech at SK Kubang Batang, Wakaf Baru on Saturday.
Najib also said that what Dr Mahathir and his cohorts did spoke volumes of their loyalty to the party.
“It is okay if you are not loyal to the party president and senior leaders, but the attempt to wipe out the party is intolerable,” said Najib.
He added that Umno members who were not as smart or as hardworking were on the correct path as long as they remained loyal to the party.
“But being disloyal to the party cannot be accepted. Whatever is said and done, party members will be replaced but the party will remain to change the fortunes of Malays,” he added.
He said when he took over as prime minister from Tun Abdullah Badawi, the latter had advised him to take the country to greater heights, which he was now doing.
“I intend to give the same advice to my successor and hope the best in his endeavours to better my track record.
“Dr Mahathir is doing the opposite and he wants to see this Government led by me to crumble and fall. This action is downright rude and wrong,” he said.
