Muhyiddin: Parti Pribumi may contest in ‘suitable’ PKR-PAS seats
(MMO) – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia is looking to contest in several PAS and PKR areas and would be looking to negotiate deals with both parties, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
“This will be based on negotiations. Based on information and data we have, there are certain areas we have identified as suitable places.
“Maybe some of the seats have already been allocated for PAS and PKR but if they understand our goal is to work together. On that basis we will have negotiations (with them),” Muhyiddin told reporters at a press conference today.
Parti Pribumi’s protem president said this was done in order for the party to be a part of a coalition to remove Barisan Nasional (BN) from power and form a new government.
“Good news is that I met some of the leaders, the response has been positive. Way forward is for us to form a government.
“We cannot be just the opposition, we need to replace the current BN to form better future for Malaysia,” Muhyiddin said.
The Pagoh MP added that his party would even be open to negotiations with PAS despite other opposition parties like DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) having a fall out with the Islamist party.
“We will discuss with all parties without excluding pas.
“We want to form an opposition coalition together to form the government in the future. We want common good for all,” Muhyiddin said.
The former deputy prime minister also didn’t rule out the possibility of Parti Pribumi contesting in Pekan, Pahang -the seat held by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak- in the upcoming general elections.
“Either Bersatu or one of the parties that we are working together (will contest in Pekan). It’s for certain,” he added with a smile.
When asked if Parti Pribumi was looking at urban seats, Muhyiddin curtly said there was a “strategic and tactical reason” behind the party’s bumiputera first agenda.
