Betraying public trust, a very Malaysian conspiracy indeed
In the past several months, Malaysian public speculated endlessly about the existence of a high level conspiracy to bring down the Prime Minister.
Many thought that the conspiracy was a government invention, a story made up to mislead the public.
In an interview given by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on August 21, he claimed that three top officials accused of conspiring to bring down Prime Minister Najib Razak were betrayed.
He said if the conspirators had not been betrayed, action against Najib would have been taken.
He named the three conspirators as Zeti, until recently, the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Abu Kassim, until July 26, the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Gani Patail, until July 27, 2015, the Attorney-General of Malaysia.
Dr. Mahathir said that the three Tan Sris were “upright” individuals who were betrayed by one among them.
In this case there was no honour among thieves.
He stopped short of naming the Tan Sri who had betrayed the two of them.
Dr. Mahathir has been working very hard as we all know to bring the Prime Minister down.
He has been piling one reckless allegation of criminal wrongdoing after another, without ever producing any proof or evidence to support his allegations.
Conspiring to remove a constitutionally elected Head of Government is bad enough, but when such act was committed by three top civil service officers, appointed by the King to protect and uphold the integrity and dignity of the laws of the country, it is a serious breach and betrayal of public trust.
It is a serious criminal offence under the law.
They have clearly betrayed public trust.
