PM’s aide: Muhyiddin using RM1b claim as smokescreen
(MMO) – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s allegation that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had almost RM1 billion in his bank accounts is an attempt to divert attention from his alleged infidelity, Datuk Seri Tengku Sarifuddin Tengku Ahmad suggested today.
The PM’s aide pointed out that Najib’s bank accounts had been extensively vetted by local authorities investigating the donation received from Saudi Arabia, which found that no wrongdoing had been committed.
Tengku Sarifuddin added that Muhyiddin’s latest allegation was motivated by personal disappointment at not becoming prime minister after the attempt to depose Najib led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was unsuccessful.
“Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s credibility and moral fibre have been destroyed. It’s clear that he preaches one thing for political expediency, but in private does another.
“Just as he falsely attacks the prime minister for corruption, when insiders all know his true history as chief minister of Johor,” Tengku Sarifuddin said in a statement.
Muhyiddin on Sunday reportedly claimed that Najib had close to RM1 billion in his private accounts prior to a US$681 million deposit by an Arab donor in 2013.
The sacked deputy prime minister alleged that he was informed of this by former attorney-general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday criticised Muhyiddin for the making the allegation based on hearsay.
