DAP decide not not initiate probe against assemblyman whose father allegedly solicited bribe
(The Sun Daily) – Penang DAP will not initiate a probe on Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim over allegations that her father received bribes to help people obtain low-cost housing units.
State party chairman Chow Kon Yeow (pic) said the matter does not involve the first term assemblyman and as such there is no need for an investigation.
He also said the viral video clip showing Lim’s 68-year-old father allegedly soliciting bribes from the housing applicants was played up by the media because it involved the father of an assemblyman.
“I think the media would not play up the issue if it was not Lim’s father,” he told reporters at the state-level 59th National Day celebrations in Esplanade.
Lim has since confirmed that the man in the video clip was her father, but refuted allegations that he solicited bribes from hopeful applicants.
She also stressed that her father had no power to influence the state government’s decisions.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has since initiated investigations into the allegation.
Chow said he has not received any information yet on MACC’s investigations and urged others not to meddle in the matter.
