Dr Mahathir-Anwar meet on Monday was an arranged meeting – Mohd Azmin
(Astro Awani) – The meeting between the two former political foes, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Jalan Duta Court Complex on Monday was an arranged meeting.
PKR deputy president, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said, the meeting was a collective effort by several individuals with the aim of uniting opposition parties.
“It was a collective effort where I myself, am trying my best to meet and talk with all the opposition parties.
“I think this is a considerable development at the moment, but it is still an ongoing process and I hope we will see good results before the 14th General Election,” he told reporters after attending the Copenhagen Solutions For Sustainable Cities Seminar at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, here today.
Mohamed Azmin said Anwar had expressed many times his desire to move forward in a bid to unite Malaysians through his reformation agenda.
He was also puzzled as to why the meeting between Dr Mahathir and Anwar had ruffled so many feathers among UMNO leaders.
“Why is Datuk Nur Jazlan being such a busybody? I feel this is good meeting aimed at uniting Malaysians and strengthening opposition parties.
“That’s why there is a sense of nervousness and panic in UMNO. They need not panic. I think this is a good start in preparing for GE14,” he said.
Mohamed Azmin stressed the opposition have only one thing in mind and that is to save the country and revive the economy.
Yesterday, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the meeting between Dr Mahathir and Anwar on Monday was a politically desperate act.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the former premier’s act of meeting his nemesis was insincere as it was done only to gain popularity with the Opposition.
