Former aide dared Mukhriz to contest Jerlun and his father in Kubang Pasu in GE14
(Malaysia Outlook) – A local Kedah Umno leader has challenged Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his son Mukhriz to contest Kubang Pasu and Jerlun parliamentary seats respectively in the next general election (GE14)
Pokok Sena division vice chairman Haris Che Mat said Mahathir should quit politics if the former prime minister declined to accept the challenge.
Haris claimed that rumours were floating in the political circle that Mukhriz may contest in now DAP-held Petaling Jaya Utara or Puchong parliamentary constituencies in GE14.
Both seats are pre-dominantly Chinese seats, while Kubang Pasu and Jerlun sit right in the northern Malay heartland of Kedah.
“If the rumours are true, I challenge Mukhriz to contest Jerlun and Mahathir in Kubang Pasu in GE14.
“If Mahathir dare not announce his candidature for GE14 then he should pension off from politics altogether,” dared Haris, formerly a special officer to Mukhriz.
Mahathir was formerly a seventh term Kubang Pasu MP (1974-2004) while Mukhriz was previously Jerlun MP (2004–2008) before he contested the Air Itam state seat, under Jerlun, in GE13 and become the Kedah menteri besar.
Previously Haris dared Mukhriz to swear on Al Quran to prove that he and his father knew nothing about a plot by a certain group to sabotage the initial public offer (IPO) for 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
The IPO sabotage eventually strangled 1MDB finance, which gave ammunition for Mahathir and company to launch unjustified political attacks on Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Haris has also challenged Mukhriz to swear on the Muslim holy book that he (Mukhriz) did not desire to dislodge Najib and fast track his promotion to become the country’s prime minister.
“I am surprised and felt weird that after nearly a month, Mukhriz has still refused, or is so afraid, to accept my challenge to swear on Quran that he knew nothing about the sabotage acts by certain groups on 1MDB.
“The sabotage works caused the 1MDB troubles that Mahathir trumpeted all over the world.
“It was a malicious persecution on Prime Minister Najib,” said Haris in a text statement today.
