Maria drags Jamal to court for defamation
(Malaysia Outlook) – Electoral watchdog group Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah has filed a defamation suit against Red Shirt movement leader Jamal Yunos for alleging the group infiltrated by the Islamic State (IS) terror group.
The suit was filed on behalf of Maria by lawyers N Surendran and Melissa Sasidaran at Kuala Lumpur High Court registrar today morning.
After filing the suit, Surendran told the reporters that Maria is suing Jamal for defamation on the words uttered by Jamal at two different occasions over the week.
During the press conferences, Jamal claimed that Bersih was infiltrated by IS which led Maria to take up defamation suit against him.
Based on Jamal’s ‘toilet bowl stunt’ Surendran also revealed that Maria is also seeking for aggravated damages.
On Wednesday, Jamal tore the Bersih’s letter of demand for an apology and flushed it down the toilet in front of media members.
