Muhyiddin says can win Johor with 10 more seats
(MMO) – The federal opposition can wrest control of Johor with 10 more state seats, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin predicted.
Muhyiddin, a former Umno deputy president, said the federal opposition had already managed to win 18 of the Johor state seats before he joined them.
“And to form a new government in Johor, how many more seats do we need? Just 10 more seats. Possibly we can get more, 12 or 15 seats.
“It’s not impossible because looking at how it is now, the country’s situation is already not taken care of,” he was quoted as saying by local daily Sinar Harian.
Muhyiddin said Jorak assemblyman Datuk Shahruddin Salleh’s exit from Umno and appointment as PPBM secretary-general meant that the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition had lost its two-thirds majority in Johor.
According to Sinar Harian, Johor Umno liaison secretary Datuk Md Jais Sarday yesterday said that all remaining 37 BN assemblyman in Johor would remain with the coalition.
He also insisted that BN still holds two-thirds majority in the 56-seat state assembly there with its 37 seats despite Shahruddin’s exit, highlighting that the federal opposition only has 19 seats.
To achieve a simple majority and form a government in Johor, 29 seats are required.
