Shahruddin has in the past proposed for the revocation of citizenship for those who cannot master Bahasa Malaysia.

(FMT) – DAP lawmaker Dr Boo Cheng Hau has prescribed a “rehabilitation” of the mind for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) Secretary-General Shahruddin Salleh.

In a statement, the Skudai assemblyman said he was “deeply concerned” about PPBM’s ideological stands under Shahruddin’s leadership, as the Jorak assemblyman had in the past repeatedly called for the revocation of citizenship of those who failed their Bahasa Malaysia examination.

While welcoming Shahruddin to the Johor Opposition pact, Boo said the top PPBM leader, whose mindset and direction was vital not only for PPBM and the Opposition pact, but also all Malaysians, should be subject to ideological “rehabilitation” by Pakatan Harapan.

Boo said all Pakatan Harapan component parties did not believe in racial politics and opened up their membership to all Malaysians.

Thus, he suggested the rehabilitation of Shahruddin’s mindset to suit the struggles of the Opposition pact, especially when it came to non-racial politics.

He prescribed three ways to do this, with the first being Shahruddin’s retraction and apology for his past inflammatory statements.

“Instead of continuing to issue inflammatory statements, he should offer free Bahasa Malaysia tuition classes to Malay and non-Malay students, especially from poor families, for at least 30 hours.”

He also recommended that Shahruddin spend a minimum of 30 hours to learn one of the minority languages and cultures to enhance his cultural sensitivity.

Boo also said he was concerned over the existence of race-based parties on both sides of the political divide, which was not good for Malaysia as a nation.
