Stop imagining things, Salleh tells Mahathir
(FMT) – The Federal Minister, responding to Dr Mahathir’s latest claims, notes that the former PM has not produced any evidence to back these allegations.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad should stop his wild imagination and baseless allegations against the Government, Federal Minister Salleh Said Keruak said Thursday.
Salleh was responding to Dr Mahathir’s latest blog post, in which the latter claimed that Umno members who wanted to join his Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) were facing all sorts of threats.
Dr Mahathir claimed, too, that people in Proton Holdings, which he formerly chaired, were barred from speaking to him. He also said democracy in Malaysia was dead and the country was being ruled with an iron fist by Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Speaking to FMT, the communications and multimedia minister pointed out that Dr Mahathir had not produced even a single shred of evidence or name to support his claims about these Umno members being threatened with demotions and that they were unable to get contracts and scholarships.
He also asked why Dr Mahathir was worried that the Inland Revenue Board would check on his “friends”, despite it being a standard procedure for all businesses.
“Is it just because they are ‘friendly’ with Dr Mahathir that they are untouchable? What additional tax have they been slapped with as claimed by Dr Mahathir, and has he seen their audit reports?
“Also, who in Proton is barred from speaking to Mahathir?
He also said if Putrajaya wanted to see Proton go bankrupt, as claimed by Dr Mahathir, the Government would not have given the national carmaker a RM 1.5 billion loan.
