Mubarak booster for PM

Najib-Mubarak

(Malaysia Outlook) – Prime Minister Najib Razak received a boost on Sunday when the Malaysian Council of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak) pledged to back his leadership and oppose any attempt to topple his government.

Mubarak adopted the stance during its 13th annual general assembly that took place in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend.

The council said it would support actions taken to thwart undemocratic attempts to topple a democratically elected federal government.

“We will continue to support for the current leadership headed by Prime Minister Najib. We urge the government to be more firm by enforcing any laws to stop those attempts,” Mubarak said in a statement.

The council urged Umno and Barisan Nasional to cooperate closely on the roles and tasks that each of its members had to undertake to ensure BN triumphed in next general election (GE14).

“All political leaders, corporate leaders, business people, government officials and Malaysians must respect the provisions of the Constitution, the Rukun Negara principles, parliamentary democracy, the constitutional monarchy and the power sharing concepts which have been practiced by all races since independence.

“We pledge our support for all policies and national programmes that are formulated and implemented by the government in line with the principles of democracy,” it said.
