Are Pakatan Harapan MPs being paid RM16,000 a month just to walk out of Dewan Rakyat?

The very philosophy behind the so called ‘save Malaysia’ campaign crumbled to dust last Friday as members of the opposition coalition staged a ‘grand’ walkout. Midway through the budget speech by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, Pakatan Harapan Members of Parliament (MPs) left the House of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat) en masse, seemingly agitated over something the Prime Minister had said.
At first glance, it appeared as if they were trying to make a very important statement. But to this day, I haven’t the faintest idea what that statement was or what had prompted the MPs to act in the manner they did. As a matter of fact, even they seemed confused as to what they were trying to prove.
Just take a look at what Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali had to say. The Selangor Menteri Besar boldly declared that the coalition was reacting to ‘provocative remarks’ the Prime Minister had apparently made, adding that it was rare for the tabling of the budget to be politicised like it was.
But PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang, better known as Tian Chua, appeared to be on another planet altogether. The MP for the Batu constituency in Kuala Lumpur tweeted that the opposition MPs had walked out of Najib’s speech because “we can’t stand the hypocrisy of a scandal-ridden kleptocrat”.
Datin’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah, on the other hand, told reporters outside Parliament that the coalition’s lawmakers had walked out to voice their dissatisfaction with the budget. The PKR president funnelled doubt in the minds of the people by implying that the kind of funds needed to realise the budget was heavily stylised and didn’t exist.
So who is telling us the truth here?
Even Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (a.k.a. ‘The Sex Man of the Year, or TSMY) seemed to be on an entirely different planet than the one Tian Chua was on. The disgraced former UMNO leader insisted that the budget was flawed on account of the fact that the government lacked funds to deliver on promises.
“This budget is unrealistic. Although on the exterior it looks nice, with the goodies and the boost of BR1M, the root issues which are the shrinking funds and how the government plans to settle its debts and liabilities, were not addressed,” he told reporters.
There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. Each MP who took part in the strike had absolutely no idea why the other had walked out of the Dewan. And we are told that these guys are determined to ‘save Malaysia’ as a collective – a Third Force – from Najib and his administration. I am beginning to wonder if these guys can even save themselves from themselves.
At this juncture, I think it is safe for me to say that last Friday, on the 21st of October 2016, Pakatan Harapan MPs had absolutely no idea what they were doing. And I mean no idea whatsoever. Some, like Azmin, quickly conjured a pretext to defend the strike. But the lie he spewed to reporters was as dumb as the idea of having Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Mahathir run the country.
Can you imagine him saying that the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House had precipitated the strike? Did it not occur to him that it was his team that had sneered and jeered at the Prime Minister throughout the better part of the budget speech? How could he have understood anything the Prime Minister said when his team was busy hurling insults and abuse? How can one as dumb as him even afford to run the Selangor state government?
Even if he wanted to lie, it should have been a more intelligent lie. Or perhaps, the truth would have been appropriate. Perhaps, he should have told reporters of the instructions he got from Dr. Mahathir Mohammad to trigger a strike at the slightest excuse.
Yes, the name Mahathir is all over the walkout.
The former premier had instructed Azmin to seek an opportunity to stage a grand walkout. Mahathir did not trust TSMY to get the job done, as to him, the disgraced Pagoh MP was not even capable of staging a simple coup against the Prime Minister. So he got Azmin to whisper into the ears of ten to fifteen PKR MPs in extreme confidentiality of the walkout plan. And as we all saw, Azmin got the job done.
So the question is, are taxpayers paying these lying weasels a basic salary of RM16,000 monthly atop the RM5, 000 in monthly allowances they receive just to walk out of an event as important as the tabling of the national budget? I mean, were they not aware that the tabling of the budget proposal was an opportunity for them to hear from the Prime Minister himself how the government planned to organsze its revenue and spending streams for the coming year?
Just think guys – are these morons worthy of your tax ringgit, enough to receive the RM200 allowance that is paid each time every one of them attends a Parliamentary sitting? And they talk about the government abusing taxpayer money – isn’t what they are doing a form of daylight robbery?
These imbeciles have got to learn that Parliamentary Democracy isn’t about making life a living hell for the Prime Minister. Rather, the job of an opposition MP is to challenge the ruling coalition on policies and Bills as and when the need arises. He or she needs to be intelligent enough to know when to speak and what to speak.
Such levels of intelligence requires that an MP be well composed and practical, and above all else, sensible. The opposition MP must know, that sensibility itself is the ability for him or her to appreciate and respond to complex emotional influences in an effective manner.
Only with such levels of sensibility can one find it in himself or herself to be objective. You will find that there are a thousand and one issues that need addressing at any one time in Parliament, that one can only handle an issue at a time. I mean, we simply can’t have sex while driving a car around a roundabout now, can we? Just ask Runggit Singh – he will tell you much about exercising discretion and a thing or two about roundabouts.
Should an opposition MP finds his or her comrades acting like monkeys, he or she would need to be sensible enough to meet them halfway and try to ‘humanise’ them through tact and diplomacy. But no amount of tact or diplomacy could possibly ‘humanise’ TSMY, who last Friday, proved himself to be a snake for the second time around.
The first time, he assisted Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed to fabricate a charge sheet against the Prime Minister. Last Friday, he slithered out of the Dewan with his newfound bedfellows on the pretext of being insulted by the Prime Minister. Slithering here, slithering there – is that why Nika Gee was so fond of him, that even her husband had failed to sniff the slithering serpent out?
Now that TSMY is wearing the opposition cap, he needs to learn how to talk like a sensible oppositionist. Only then will he be able to come off seeming a little more intelligent than he really is. To do that, he needs to know what to speak and when to speak it.
For instance, when the issue of corruption is in motion, he should talk about corruption. When it is about the moral implication of having an MP who had sex with the Chinese wife of a prominent lawyer, we talk about the moral implication of having an MP who had sex with the Chinese wife of a prominent lawyer.
It’s that simple.
Pakatan Harapan MPs ought to get in tune with the concerns of the commoner who put them in Parliament. When a commoner thinks of the budget, he or she thinks of making ends meet, of putting food on the table and the likes. He or she does not think about MO1 or 1MDB or all that silly jazz.
And that is what makes TSMY, Wan Azizah, Nurul Izzah, Lim Kit Siang and Azmin look like the imbeciles they have proven themselves to be. These idiots would have appeared more intelligent had they not been seen holding placards that read “Who is MO1?” I mean, can any of them explain to me how that could be of immediate concern to the commoner?
That said, the public at large turned out wiser than I had anticipated. They actually saw through the opposition coalition’s bluff. Even opposition supporters, or at the very least, a large number of them, were seen in social media taking the piss off their reps for making light an event as monumental as the presentation of the annual budget.
For instance, some have begun to criticise Kit Siang for suggesting that the country was going bankrupt. One comment read, “The only one going bankrupt is Uncle Lim. He is bankrupt of ideas. If he is so concerned about the country going bankrupt, why not focus on the budget speech instead of holding up placards?”
True. As a matter of fact, the senior Lim has been going on and on about bankruptcy since the days of Tun Hussein Onn. Going by his initial estimates, Malaysia should have been bankrupt more than thirty years ago. I just don’t think Malaysians buy into his lies anymore. More and more are waking up to the truth as we speak.
And talk about the nerve of Wan Azizah to even imply that the country’s coffers were drying up. For someone claiming to be the leader of a government-in-waiting, she certainly got her priorities wrong when she chose to be dragged out of the Dewan by her comrades. Take the cue guys – did she lead the strike?
No.
Isn’t it ironical that our ‘future Prime Minister’, or at the very least, ‘the wife of our future Prime Minister’, should have been ‘dragged’ out of the Dewan along with her daughter by her ‘subordinates’? Shouldn’t she have been the one to lead the walkout? To you guys in PKR, are you reading this? That’s the ‘future leader of the country’ right there. Did I not tell you guys a million and one times that your president is a headless chicken?
And so is her daughter.
“We have not been given any room to voice our opinions. Why is the government using BR1M to cover-up all the questions about corruption?”
Yes, that came from Nurul Izzah, the daughter of Wan Azizah. Tell us, Nurul, what room were you referring to? Was it the ladies restroom? Did your mother not tell you why it was necessary to sit through a budget speech, or perhaps, the story of how UMNO reps had sat through Azmin’s entire speech as the latter defended Selangor’s deficit budget on the 30th of October last year?
Did you not know that unlike Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, TSMY and Azmin himself – all head honchos in their own right – none of the UMNO reps sneered or jeered at Azmin as he presented the Selangor government’s proposed spending for the whole of 2016?
Ask your mother. She will tell you that despite the 2016 Selangor budget being the largest ever in the state’s history (at almost RM3 billion), UMNO reps sat through Azmin’s entire speech without causing a ruckus.
Your mother will also tell you that UMNO politicians realise how monumental and far reaching the annual budget is. They know that every syllable, every insinuation and every gesture by the leader of a state is important to help them understand the budget better. That’s precisely why they are still in UMNO and TSMY is not. Heck, he is hardly ever in the Dewan to begin with.
Seriously, TSMY, just go to Nika and leave the political arena for good. It’s only a matter of time before we at Malaysia Today fry someone as lembap as you. As for the rest of you, stick around. I’ll be back very soon with an article on Hadi’s Private Member’s Bill.
