PPBM President Muhyiddin Yassin throws a lifeline to Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, following police probe and possible action by Umno against former minister.

(FMT) – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysian (PPBM) is opening its doors to former second finance minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah now that the latter’s future in Umno is bleak.

“I believe he is in trouble although I am not sure if the Umno Supreme Council will take action against him,” PPBM President Muhyiddin Yassin said, referring to Husni’s recent questioning of 1MDB in the Dewan Rakyat.

Muhyiddin, who himself was sacked from Umno in June, added PPBM is now monitoring Husni’s situation.

“If he chooses to join us we are more than happy to welcome him,” the former deputy prime minister told media at a press conference at which the PPBM leadership line-up was announced.

Husni, who was dropped from Prime Minister Najib Razak’s administration after a Cabinet reshuffle in June, had in the Dewan Rakyat last week, questioned the government’s motive in setting up 1MDB which he alleged has seen a lot of misappropriation with no action taken.

The Tambun MP, who has since resigned from all posts in Umno and Barisan Nasional, also demanded to know what happened to the investment units worth US$1 billion, which were supposed to mature last year.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar has since revealed that Husni, along with Muhyiddin and former Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal would be investigated for allegedly breaking the oath of secrecy they undertook when assuming their respective Cabinet posts.
