Ex-PKR man knew it all about Soros funding in Malaysia
Former PKR supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam knew about George Soros funding of PKR.
(Malaysia Outlook) – Former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam is least surprised with the exposure by DC Leaks website that several local organisations received foreign funding from billionaire George Soros.
“I’m not surprised because I had already exposed PKR and Malaysiakini (received funds) in 2004. Only Bersih and Merdeka Centre were the new recipients (of the funds), after 2010,” said Lokman, who was sacked from PKR following his disclosure of the party’s sourcing of funds from foreigners.
Speaking to Bernama, Lokman claimed there were meetings between several PKR leaders and Soros in Washington DC in late 2003, including PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Azmin Ali, Anwar Ibrahim’s former press secretary Khalid Jaafar and Selangor executive councillor Elizabeth Wong to raise funds for the 2004 general election.
“At that time, I as a member of the PKR supreme council was never informed about the plans of the party’s president to meet with Soros, and neither were we informed after the president came back,” he said.
Lokman, who is a member of the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) think tank claimed that Azmin had confirmed in the PKR election bureau meeting that an initial RM3 million had been received and was being used for PKR to order flags, t-shirts and caps from China.
“When I asked Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor (former political secretary of Anwar) at the time, he informed me that the funds came from Soros. So for PKR, being financed by Soros is not a new thing…. (it has been so) since 2004 to my knowledge. What I don’t know is it could be earlier than that, I’m not sure,” he explained.
Lokman also revealed that majority of the cadre and training courses organised by PKR was managed by the Institute for Policy Studies, which received funding from a Christian foundation in Germany.
