PAS: We won’t be trapped into joining Bersih 5
(MMO) – PAS insisted today it will not be trapped into joining the Bersih 5 rally just to prove its seriousness to contest in straight fights against the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition in the next general elections.
Its deputy president, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the Islamist party will not change its decision about joining the mega rally this month, even as it continues to open doors for discussions on straight fights.
“We have said before we will never join Bersih. Do not trap us as if to unite, we have to join Bersih.
“No, we will not join Bersih,” Tuan Ibrahim said as quoted by Sinar Online.
Earlier this week, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin of Parti Amanah Negara said PAS should join the Bersih rally if the Islamist party is serious about contesting in straight fights against BN.
The Perak Amanah deputy chairman issued the challenge following PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin’s statement that his party agreed that there should be one-on-one fights between the Opposition and the BN in the polls due by 2018.
Several PAS leaders have since reiterated that the party will only work with allies who will respect its Islamic struggles and ideology.
Last month, PAS said that the organisers of Bersih 5 had deviated from their original struggle, the reason why the party was adamant not to join the rally.
