DAP delegate: Dr M is like a pimp and a snake
(The Star) – Emotions ran high at the Penang DAP Convention 2016 when a delegate likened former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to a “pimp” and a “snake”.
“When we mention Mahathir, a story comes to my mind,” Chai Leng Park delegate Shamsher Singh Thind said in his speech Sunday.
“A boy saw an injured snake and brought it home to tend to its injuries. After the snake recovered, it bit the boy. Using his last breath, the boy asked the snake why it bit him. Because I’m a snake. It is my nature to bite people,’ the snake replied,” said Shamsher.
Shamsher said Dr Mahathir could be the subject in the parable about the snake.
“The stupidest statement I have heard (about Dr Mahathir) is that ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’.
“Mahathir is not the enemy of my enemy. He is my enemy,” he added.
Shamsher also questioned the veterans in DAP if they felt humiliated when they shook hands with Dr Mahathir.
“Why is he coming to DAP and Bersih now? Because he is afraid that if the Opposition wins (the general election), we will expose everything.
“It’s like wanting to save a whore, but he is the pimp who turned the woman into a whore,” Shamsher said.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng urged Shamsher to retract his statements on the “snake and pimp” reference, to which he refused at the beginning.
“Let us not go down to that level … Treat this like a lecture hall and you are the lecturer,” Lim said.
Shamsher eventually retracted his statements.
