DAP and Amanah stumbling block towards talks with PPBM, PAS Youth chief indicates
(MMO) – PAS has yet to decide if it will form a grand coalition with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and PKR for the 14th general election, the Islamist party’s Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said today.
He admitted that PAS and PPBM, the newest Umno splinter party in the peninsula, are in talks, and added that PKR was too.
“But never will PAS be friends with DAP and Amanah,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here.
He explained that this was because both PPBM and PKR are friendly with DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), which it views as a thorn in PAS’ side due to their obstruction of PAS’ goal.
Asked if a grand partnership with PPBM and PKR would necessarily entail an alliance with DAP and Amanah, the Pasir Mas MP said: “That’s why we have not reached a decision.”
He also denied that PAS was working with Barisan Nasional (BN) or Umno.
“We will work with them on good initiatives such as the Budget but not on the negative aspects,” he said, without elaborating further.
Prior to this, PAS Spiritual Leader Hashim Jasin was reported as saying that the party had agreed to the concept of a one-to-one contest against BN.
DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang had subsequently questioned the decision of the party to do so, although asserting that DAP was always open to work with any parties to ensure straight fights in the coming general elections.
