DAP councillor apologises over his “seditious” remarks against Sultan of Johor
(Malaysia Outlook) – The embattled DAP councillor M. Satees has denied today that he had insulted the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, in a Facebook posting last week, claiming that the allegations spread online by certain quarters were untrue.
Satees also apologised to anyone who felt offended with his posting.
He said his posting had only referred to the Federal Constitution vis-à-vis the Johor Constitution, when he questioned the sultan’s command to ban demonstrations in Johor.
The DAP Batu Kawan parliamentary division secretary said that he posted the remarks on his personal capacity, not that of his party’s.
“I have only given my personal opinion by referring to the Federal Constitution. I did not at all insulted or belittle the Sultan of Johor,” Satees in a statement published in his Facebook.
“I will have to take responsibility for my statements and acts. No other individuals or organisations are responsible for them.”
As a Malaysian citizen, he said he would uphold the principles of the national charter, Rukunegara, and respected the constitutional monarchy system of the country.
He claimed that he had never ever “insulted” the constitutional monarchy system, claiming that he had even posted once Sultan Ibrahim’s photo in his Facebook account.
“Why certain quarters want to incite hatred against me?” he asked.
In his Facebook posting, Satees has “told off” Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar that His Royal Highness had no power to stop anyone from taking part in peaceful assembly in Johor.
The Facebook time stamp showed that Satees had posted it at 8.19pm on Thursday Nov 3, 2016. But a check by MO on Sunday found that the posting had been removed.
