(Bernama) – The Selangor State Assembly Speaker Hannah Yeoh today rejected a motion submitted by Sungai Burong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias to discuss the taking over of Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor (Splash) equity by the state government alleged to have involved RM2.975 billion.

Speaking to reporters after the State Assembly sitting here today, Yeoh said the motion was rejected as it was addressed to the State Assembly secretary and not to her.

After all, she said it was not an urgent matter as the taking over of Splash equity was still being discussed between the state and the federal governments.

Besides, Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali had also provided detailed explanation on the issue when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2017 recently, she added.

Mohd Shamsudin of Barisan Nasional submitted the notice for the motion yesterday, calling for immediate discussion as both Mohamed Azmin and former Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had given contradicting statements on the amount involved in the taking over of the water concession company.

Mohamed Azmin had allegedly accused that Abdul Khalid, during his tenure as Selangor Menteri Besar, had never informed the State Assembly about the offer he made to Splash in letters dated June 25, 2009 and July 19, 2009.

“The former state administration stated that the offer for the taking over of Splash equity was RM250 million and that was the amount which had been repeated worldwide, but the same administration had never informed the State Assembly about the offer of RM2.975 billion made to Splash in letters dated June 25, 2009, and July 19, 2009,” Mohamed Azmin said when winding up the debate on Supply Bill 2017 at the State Assembly sitting last week.

Abdul Khalid, on the other hand, said the state government had never offered RM2.975 billion for the taking over of the Splash equity between 2008 and 2014 as claimed by Mohamed Azmin.

He said the final amount offered to Splash was only RM250.6 million.

The sitting continues tomorrow.
