Former Selangor Menteri Besar says politicians should not resort to “politik jalanan”.

(FMT) – Khalid Ibrahim today hit back at Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali for calling him a hypocrite, saying that his successor should “look at himself in the mirror first”.

The former Selangor Menteri Besar said politicians should behave in a more civilised manner and refrain from resorting to “politk jalanan” which he explained meant making a lot of noise.

“If you are governing a state you cannot resort to shouting. It’s all about strategy and implementation.

“That’s why I requested that Speaker Hannah Yeoh give me a chance to explain myself in the state assembly,” he told reporters at his residence here.

Earlier today at the Selangor state assembly sitting, Azmin called Khalid a hypocrite and accused him of lying to the public over a deal involving Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor (SPLASH).

Prior to this, Azmin alleged that the Selangor Government under Khalid’s leadership had made an offer of RM2.975 billion for the taking over of the SPLASH equity between 2008 and 2014.

Azmin also claimed that Khalid had never informed the state assembly about the offer he made to SPLASH in letters dated June 25, 2009 and July 19, 2009.

However Khalid, who is the assemblyman for Port Klang, questioned the need to attend the state assembly sitting if he was not allowed to explain his side of the story.

“Azmin has challenged me to explain the issue in the state assembly. I don’t want an occurrence of ‘politik jalanan’ when I go to the state assembly.

“I don’t like simply sitting there and not being able to speak.”
