Repent instead of slandering others, Dr M urged again
PAS lawmaker Nik Abduh Nik Aziz says it is better for the former PM to deepen his knowledge of Islam rather than return to the political arena.
(FMT) – Nik Abduh Nik Aziz has again urged former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to repent and go on a pilgrimage to Mecca instead of constantly slandering others.
The son of the late PAS spiritual adviser, Nik Aziz Nik Mat, said Mahathir often made statements that contradicted his past actions.
“He says stuff based on his whims and fancies. He imprisons Anwar Ibrahim, but now is pushing for his release. Why didn’t he do so when he was in power?
“It’s better for him to deepen his knowledge of Islam rather than return to the political arena,” the PAS lawmaker told reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat.
Nik Abduh was responding to Mahathir’s claim made at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) convention on Saturday that the Islamist party had received “dedak”, a euphemism often used to describe bribes.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman said this after accusing PAS of supporting Prime Minister Najib Razak’s administration.
Earlier this year, Nik Abduh had suggested that Mahathir spend more time “on prayer mats and facing the Kaabah” after claiming the former PM had lost his ability to influence voters to choose the opposition over the BN in twin by-elections.
On a related note, Nik Abduh also said he was unsure about PPBM’s intention to cooperate with PAS as the two-month-old party had yet to give a definite answer.
“I’m not sure if it is serious or not as the party is hot and cold on this matter.”
PPBM President Muhyiddin Yassin had previously proposed that PAS, PPBM and PH cooperate to ensure straight fights with the Barisan Nasional in the next general election.
