Muhyiddin hopes won’t end up like Rafizi
(MMO) – Former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today insisted he has parliamentary immunity for comments that allegedly violated the Official Secrets Act 1972, which was used to convict Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli yesterday.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president said that while he was dismayed that the PKR lawmaker was given 18 months’ imprisonment yesterday, he said their circumstances were not the same.
“I sympathise with what has happened to YB Rafizi. I hope I will not fall into the same situation because I do believe what I spoke in Parliament and as an MP, I have the right to speak.
“And I do have immunity, so I hope the authority will understand the whole background to what I have said in Parliament,” he told reporters after giving his statement at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
Muhyiddin, who was questioned for about two hours today, is accused of breaching the law by revealing Cabinet meeting details during a speech in Parliament.
Rafizi was yesterday convicted of two charges under the OSA for possessing and disclosing part of the Auditor-General’s report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
His lawyer, Amer Hamzah Arshad, said Muhyiddin is being investigated under the OSA and Sedition Act 1948.
“The police have asked certain questions and we have answered to the best of our ability,” he said.
Two other former ministers, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, were also called by the police to record their statements.
Shafie has given his statement to the police for allegedly revealing government secrets during the debate in the 2017 Supply Bill.
Husni is yet to so, as it was postponed indefinitely.
Husni stepped down as second finance minister and quit all of his posts in Umno and Barisan Nasional in June.
