Anwar: I’m proud of Rafizi
(MMO) – Imprisoned Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today hailed PKR’s Rafizi Ramli for performing his “responsibility” in exposing classified information that could see the latter join him in the Sungai Buloh Prison.
The PKR de facto leader said he regretted the 18-month prison sentence given to the Pandan MP, but expressed confidence that Rafizi will not be deterred from continuing his work.
“Rafizi did his responsibility to the country and the people by exposing misappropriation and corruption. I believe Rafizi will persevere in continuing the struggles, I’m proud of his courage.
“I’m disappointed with the use of laws to suppress the voice of the Rakyat,” he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court after testifying as a defence witness for Bukit Katil MP Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, who was charged with participating in an illegal “Black 505” rally.
Anwar claimed it was government’s strategy to go after Opposition leaders before the next election.
“But I believe the people realise it and will rise,” he said when urging the public to support Bersih 5 rally on Saturday.
Rafizi was found guilty by the Sessions Court earlier this week of two charges under the Official Secrets Act for possessing and disclosing a page from the Auditor-General’s sealed report on 1MDB, in Parliament on March 24 and March 28.
Rafizi had, in a press conference, disclosed the contents of a document claimed to be from the AG report on 1MDB, which was classified under the OSA.
