Police sweep continues, Red Shirts among 11 arrested so far
(The Star) – Five more people have been hauled up by the police, including student activist Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof, in a slew of arrests of Bersih and Red Shirt leaders and supporters.
This brings the total number of people arrested so far to 11 as a police sweep continued through the night.
Anis Syafiqah told The Star Online that she had been picked up by police at her home in Petaling Jaya at about 8.30pm on Friday and was taken to the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters.
She said she was arrested under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
Also arrested on Friday were DAP members Jimmy Wong and Lee Khai Ming who had both used Facebook’s “check in” feature to show that they too had been brought to the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters.
It had been reported that Red Shirts activists identified as Razali Zakaria and Ariffin Abu Bakar were also arrested by police.
Earlier in the day, police arrested Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and Bersih secretariat officer Mandeep Singh.
Police also arrested DAP’s Seremban MP Anthony Loke, former Pandamaran assemblyman Ronnie Liu, Parti Socialis Malaysia (PSM) leader S. Arutchelvan, and student activist Luqman Nul Hakim Zul Razali.
