Mahfuz says up to PAS to act against his Bersih participation
(The Star) – Saying he did it for the people, Datuk Mahfuz Omar (pic) is ready to face PAS’ disciplinary committee for taking part in Saturday’s Bersih 5.0 rally.
“I leave it to the party’s disciplinary committee to decide and it’s up to them to decide if I had done wrong,” the Pokok Sena MP told reporters at Parliament lobby.
“What I did was for the rakyat and I participated in Bersih because of the rakyat’s demands,” he added.
Mahfuz said there were six other PAS assemblymen from Kedah who were at the rally.
Mahfuz, a former PAS information chief, said the party did not issue an official letter to bar members from participating in the rally.
“What I know was from party deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s statement which was reported in Harakah Daily, that PAS and its members were not joining the rally,” he added.
He was commenting on PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who said he would leave it to the disciplinary committee to take action against party members who participated in the rally.
When met at Parliament lobby, PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said no decision has been made to take disciplinary action against Mahfuz and the six lawmakers.
