Dr M mocks withdrawal of invite to Agong’s installation ceremony

(The Star) – Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has mocked the withdrawal of his invitation to the installation of the new king, claiming that national events appear to be part of party politics.

On his blog chedet.cc on Thursday, Dr Mahathir said he received an invitation on Nov 10 from the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal to attend the installation of the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Dec 13 at the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.

“I said I would attend because I see this occasion as a national event, which has no relation to any political parties,” he added.

However, his invitation was withdrawn on Dec 6 via a letter from the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal.

The letter said its intent was to spare Dr Mahathir any embarrassment if he attended the event as there would not be a seat reserved for him.

“It seems that national events are actually part of party politics,” Dr Mahathir, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, wrote sarcastically on his blog.
