MCA supported Dr M in his ‘darkest hours’
Ong also pointed out that prior to the 13th general election, DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang had urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry on RM100 billion that was allegedly siphoned off during Dr Mahathir’s tenure.
(The Star) – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s attacks on MCA is a move to deflect criticism from his partnership with DAP, says Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan.
The MCA secretary-general said the party had supported Dr Mahathir in his “darkest hours”.
“Dr Mahathir has forgotten that MCA had contributed towards the drafting of the Federal Constitution alongside Umno.
“MCA has never ditched the Alliance, Umno or Barisan Nasional. Party-to-party relationships within the coalition remain entrenched despite the party’s internal hiccups which were swiftly resolved.
“Through thick and thin, MCA has always stood by Barisan’s leadership and its component parties,” Ong said in a statement.
He was responding to Wednesday’s blog post by Dr Mahathir in which he projected MCA as racist while glorifying DAP as respectful towards the Constitution.
“But strangely, Lim and Dr Mahathir have now become best friends forever!” said Ong.
He also responded to Dr Mahathir’s claim that MCA supported the Election Commission’s redelineation exercise, saying that the accusation was totally misplaced.
“MCA has fiercely protested the new constituency arrangements.
“Hence, how can Dr Mahathir prematurely accuse us of supporting the proposed exercise,” he said.
