Aziz Bari: PAS will lose out in S’gor if they go it alone
Selangor DAP committee member Abdul Aziz Bari says Islamist party has marginal seats in state and is also unlikely to defeat Umno in Malay-majority seats.
(FMT) – PAS will not be able to last in Selangor and this would mean the Islamist party would lose out if they refuse to join Pakatan Harapan, says DAP’s Abdul Aziz Bari.
Speaking to FMT, Aziz also said PAS’ plan to form a separate political bloc without Amanah and DAP will not trouble Pakatan Harapan.
“I can’t see PAS being able to last in Selangor in the current political climate. To me PAS will lose out.”
“What approach can they take? Their seats in Selangor are marginal seats and even in the majority Malay seats in the state, it is not certain that they can beat Umno.”
In recent times, PAS’ friendly relations with Umno and aggressive stance against DAP and Amanah, has seen the party being accused of working with Umno.
Last night, Selangor PAS organised a ceramah in Paya Jeras, which saw PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man share a stage with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Muhyiddin Yassin and PKR central committee member Sivarasa Rasiah.
Prior to the ceramah, which was attended by over 1,000 people, Selangor PAS secretary Khairuddin Othman said the ceramah was a step towards the forming of an opposition bloc between PAS, PPBM and PKR.
DAP and Amanah, which are part of Pakatan Harapan, were not invited to the ceramah as PAS does not want to work with the two parties, even though they are allies with PKR and PPBM.
Aziz played down the ceramah saying it proved that PAS wanted to move on its own.
He said that the ceramah was not a success as the attendance should have been much larger, in the range of 2,000 to 3,000 people, given the seniority of the leaders which attended.
“I see the ceramah as PAS confirming its intentions to go it alone.”
