Rafizi moots plan on how Anwar can be PM
“If the Yang di-Pertuan Agong gives his blessing, Datuk Seri Anwar can be freed within two days from the GE14 polling date. One of the PKR lawmakers who just won can vacate their seat and within as early as two weeks after the GE14 polling date, Datuk Seri Anwar can win a parliamentary seat and subsequently take his oath as prime minister.”
(MMO) – PKR’s Rafizi Ramli suggested today a plan that resembled his previous so-called “Kajang Move” on how Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim can be made prime minister should Pakatan Harapan win the next general election.
The PKR vice president said if Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general elections, the pact could instruct the chief secretary, who would be head of the caretaker government, to apply for a royal pardon for Anwar, who is currently in prison for sodomy, on behalf of the new federal government.
“If the Yang di-Pertuan Agong gives his blessing, Datuk Seri Anwar can be freed within two days from the GE14 polling date.
“One of the PKR lawmakers who just won can vacate their seat and within as early as two weeks after the GE14 polling date, Datuk Seri Anwar can win a parliamentary seat and subsequently take his oath as prime minister,” Rafizi said in a statement.
Rafizi added that he was prepared for the possibility that Anwar might lose his case tomorrow at the Federal Court that will decide on the PKR de facto leader’s application for the court to review its verdict last year that upheld a five-year jail term for sodomy.
The so-called “Kajang Move” in 2014 saw PKR’s Lee Chin Cheh resigning as Kajang assemblyman, after which Anwar was named as the party’s candidate for the by-election.
The unforced resignation had fuelled rumours that it was to allow Anwar to join the state legislative assembly for the purpose of removing then Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
However, the Court of Appeal had overturned Anwar’s acquittal of sodomising former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and sentenced him to five years’ jail, disqualifying him from running in Kajang.
Anwar’s wife and current PKR president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, replaced him and won the election easily. However, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali ended up as the new Selangor mentri besar instead.
