After inking Pakatan deal, PPBM pleads for seats in GE14
(MMO) – Fledgling Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has urged Pakatan Harapan parties to let it contest in some of their seats, after formalising an electoral pact with the latter for the 14th general election.
According to its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in a Sinar Harian report, the move would be indicative of the cooperation between the federal opposition pact and the Umno splinter party.
“As a new party, we remind that we do not have any seats yet, so we want to request our friends to contribute seats,” Muhyiddin was quoted saying, referring to PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.
“The consensus here would not go anywhere if our friends only help on a moral aspect.”
After the deal yesterday, Muhyiddin had insisted that PPBM would continue to approach Islamist party PAS to form a larger electoral pact among all Opposition parties in order to eliminate multi-corner contests that usually benefit the ruling Barisan Nasional.
PAS is currently at loggerheads with DAP and its offshoot Amanah, and has vowed to not work with the two.
The agreement between PPBM and Pakatan Harapan yesterday outlined seven items, including the formation of a joint technical committee to discuss seat allocations, a common logo and manifesto, and a common framework.
Opposition Leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the agreement was the first step before forming a formal Opposition coalition to further facilitate the establishment of a new government, if the Opposition parties win the 14th general election.
