GE14: DAP offshoot party will contest in Selangor
Parti Alternatif Rakyat says it’s picking candidates for the next general election.
(FMT) – Parti Alternatif Rakyat (PAP) has confirmed it will contest at least eight parliamentary and 34 state seats in Selangor in the next General Election.
PAP president Zulkifli Mohd Noor said the multiracial party was in the process of identifying youth and women candidates.
“PAP is for leadership that is moderate, clean campaigning and balanced spending. Also we do not want to be overconfident. The issues we will focus on include both national and local ones, among others, housing and education,” he told reporters here today.
The party was registered as a new political party by the Registrar of Societies on Oct 30, last year. It was formed by former DAP members after an internal crisis and leadership issues in the opposition party.
Zulkifli, who is also a former vice-chairman of DAP, had said previously that PAP would be contesting all parliamentary and state seats in Penang, where the government is led by DAP. He gave no indication if that was still on the cards.
