Former top cop gives blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin 14 days to retract remarks that he had helped “fix” the sodomy case against Anwar Ibrahim.

FMT) – Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan today threatened to sue blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin over allegations in a blog posting linking him with Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy case.

The nation’s former top cop gave Raja Petra 14 days to apologise and retract all articles which contained “slanderous” allegations.

If Raja Petra failed to do this, Musa told reporters at a press conference at Shah Village Hotel, he would lodge a police report “and a defamation suit will follow”.

Writing in his Malaysia Today blog, Raja Petra had claimed former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, through Musa and former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, had “fixed” Anwar in the Sodomy 2 case.

Musa said the allegation made by Raja Petra was slanderous, and aimed at tarnishing his image and that of Gani.

“These are baseless accusations against me. The case has already been heard in court and it has nothing to do with us ‘fixing’ it.”

Asked if he had discussed the option of legal action with Gani, Musa said he was doing it in his personal capacity and that he had not had any discussion with Gani.

In the blog posting titled “How Mukhriz is going to become PM”, Raja Petra also claimed that Prime Minister Najib Razak had nothing to do with Anwar’s Sodomy 2 case.

Musa agreed with Raja Petra, when asked by reporters, that Najib had nothing to do with this.

Raja Petra, who is currently residing in the UK, had also referred to Musa and Gani as Mahathir’s henchmen, dismissing the duo as “running dogs” for the former premier.

Responding to this remark, Musa reminded Raja Petra that “no government servant is a running dog for any politician”.

He added: “As government servants, we only carry out our duties and pledge our support to the government of the day. It’s a very bad insinuation to say that, because, sometimes, we also don’t agree with politicians. We just want to carry out our duties, that’s all.”

Anwar is currently serving a five-year sentence at the Sungai Buloh Prison for sexual misconduct against his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.

The former opposition leader was initially acquitted by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Jan 9, 2012. However, the Court of Appeal reversed the acquittal and sentenced him to five-years’ jail on March 7, 2014.

Last week, Anwar failed in his final attempt to clear his sodomy conviction after the Federal Court dismissed his review application. His remaining option is to file an application to the Pardons Board for clemency.
