The former top cop asks police to investigate the blogger under defamation laws and also under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act.

(FMT) – Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan lodged a police report today against blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin despite earlier giving him a 14-day ultimatum.

This follows the publication of yet another “slanderous” article yesterday titled “Musa Hassan, the evidence is stacked against you” by Raja Petra in his blog, Malaysia Today, he said.

In the article, Raja Petra had challenged Musa to prove his innocence, adding he would not hesitate to apologise if Musa has adequate evidence to prove he was not guilty.

This followed a statement by Musa that if Raja Petra failed to apologise and retract the articles with “slanderous” allegations within 14 days, he would lodge a police report and a defamation suit would follow.

Speaking to reporters outside the Petaling Jaya police station after lodging his report, Musa said the report was made because of the latest article which challenged him to prove his innocence.

“He (Raja Petra) won’t apologise because he keeps writing. This is to prove that he has defamed me and is trying to shake my credibility.

“There’s no point waiting for 14 days any more.”

Musa had lodged the police report on all four articles titled, “Gani Patail and Musa Hassan going to be crucified tomorrow”, “How Mukhriz is going to be the PM”, “Former IGP Musa Hassan should be investigated for links with the underworld”, and “Musa Hassan, the evidence is stacked against you”.

“I would like the police to investigate this under defamation laws and also under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act.

“I will also consult my lawyer whether we will take any civil suit in future.”

Raja Petra began with an article titled “How Mukhriz is going to become PM”, where he claimed that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, through Musa and former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, had “fixed” former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in the Sodomy 2 case.

Raja Petra also labelled Musa and Gani as mere “running dogs” for Mahathir.

Anwar is currently serving a five-year sentence at the Sungai Buloh Prison for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.
